Chalk Festival

Once a year there is a chalk festival in our city. This year the asphalt came to life with over 140 artists. Thousands come by over the course of the weekend to view the murals. Not beings artistic, I am amazed that these creative people can turn their vision into reality on the ground with just some chalk. The event is free, parking is free as well. Also, the festival gives little ones a chance to participate. Kids can stop by the booth and pick up some chalk and make their own creation.

Campfire Cones

While searching on Pinterest the other day, I found a cool dessert. Last weekend at our annual backyard camp out I decided to give it a try. We bought waffle cones and filled them with chopped strawberries, bananas, chocolate chips and mini marshmallows. Then we wrapped them in foil and cooked them on the BBQ for about 5 minutes, turning a few times so they do not burn.  Just long enough to melt the ingredients inside the cone. Unwrap and eat with a spoon. They were great. Now that we've tried them out at home, we will be making again at our next camping trip.

Home Depot Workshops

The first Saturday of the month, Home Depot has a FREE hands-on workshop for kids ages 5-12. Projects vary from month to month, but they all teach skills and tool safety. A great thing to do with Dad, Uncle, or Grandpa. What guy doesn't like to visit Home Depot?

Parks and Recreation

Yesterday we decided to pack a picnic and head out to our local lake. We arrived after a 10 minute drive  ready to play! Lake Skinner has something for all ages. You can hike, picnic, fish, play on the playground, bring your bike and go for a nice ride, or play in the splash pad. A day pass is just $6.00 a car. They also have camping and a boat launch too. It's the perfect place to visit.
